Some Kaiser Permanente registered nurses are working to advance their training, skills, and education. In the process, they are also sharing their knowledge and helping to improve lives in the community.

Some 250 Kaiser Permanente RNs across Northern California are in a program called the Nurse Scholars Academy, launched in 2015 by Kaiser Permanente as part of a broad professional development initiative.

Course work for those in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Samuel Merritt University (SMU) has some of those nursing scholars participating in a number of different projects and initiatives.

The Midtown Association is proud to present a very special “Midtown Love” celebration on Thursday evening, May 18, 2017, from 6 to 9 p.m.  Designed to celebrate Midtown’s unique and eclectic vibe, the spirited indoor/outdoor event will take place at Faces Nightclub (2000 K Street) as well as an adjacent “activated” alleyway.

Complete with drag queens browsing about, the one-of-a-kind celebration will be highlighted by an iconic and lively lip sync battle featuring local individuals as they participate in a fierce but friendly competition sure to entertain and delight the audience. The event will also offer an incredible night of dancing and a visually-enticing “Wall of Boom,” a perfect backdrop for memorable photos.  Event guests will also have a chance to mix, mingle and network with many of Midtown’s key influencers, business owners and involved community members while experiencing the flavor of Midtown.

Railroad Museum presents “Trains & Tripods” photo opportunity & lighting seminar on May 12-13

Lights, camera, action! California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum are proud to offer a two-part “Trains & Tripods Photo Opportunity & Lighting Seminar” for photographers on Friday evening, May 12 and Saturday morning, May 13, 2017.

In partnership with Mike’s Camera, the unique program starts with an optional, fast-paced and information-packed seminar about existing light photography on Friday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. that will be conducted by former Sacramento Bee photographer and Canon USA Digital Learning Center Instructor Dave Henry. Then on Saturday morning, a photographers-only “bring your own tripod” photo workshop will take place inside the visually-enticing museum from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (before it opens to the public for the day). Photographers of all skill levels can choose to attend one or both of the activities.

A center for culture, creativity and vibrancy, Midtown Sacramento is an exciting 2nd Saturday Art Walk destination where local art galleries and other participating businesses collaborate to host a popular evening open house each month. Midtown guests will enjoy viewing art exhibits, participating in hands-on activities, meeting local artists, sampling food and wine, listening to live music and more.  On Saturday, May 13, 2017, a sampling of the offerings presented by Midtown galleries and businesses include the following:

Railroad Museum encourages interested volunteers to attend special open house on May 13

Fascinated by railroading history? Interested in working on a train? California State Parks, the California State Railroad Museum and Old Sacramento State Historic Park (SHP) are now recruiting adults (18 or older) who are interested in volunteering to help communicate the West’s fascinating heritage of railroading and the California Gold Rush. For those interested, a special, drop-in Volunteer Open House is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Stanford Gallery located at 111 I Street in Old Sacramento (next door to the California State Railroad Museum). Volunteer applications are being accepted now through May 17 and will be followed by an interview process. The next Docent Training session is scheduled to begin on June 3.
