Pet of the Week- Kiki

Pet of the Week- Kiki

Meet Kiki!

Kiki is a beautiful white cat with green eyes and a cute meow.  She is four-years-old and a very playful, loving little girl whose favorite things are string toys, catnip mice, purring and snuggling up in bed with you.

Kiki can be a bit of a diva and would like a quiet household where she is the only cat. But rest assured, she'll reward you with lots of love and affection! She is currently being fostered but is looking for her permanent home. You can contact Sarah Varanini at svaranini@sspca.org if you are interested in finding out more.

**Also, check out our website www.sspca.org to find out more about our 2011 DOGGY DASH on June 4th at William Land Park. You won't want to miss this great dog-friendly walk and festival, benefitting the SSPCA!!**

Animal House Pet of the Week - March 1, 2011

The Sacramento & Co. Animal House introduces "Jezebel"

Jezebel (ID#A364732), is a 2 to 3-year old female, blue and white Pit Bull Terrier mix.  She is a calm "lap dog," who wants nothing more than to snuggle up next to you on the couch, while you are reading or watching TV.  But, Jezebel is no "couch potato" and loves to get up and go places...just so she can be with you!  She is tolerant of other dogs, but should be adopted into a home where she is the only dog.  Jezebel really just wants you, without having to share!   If you are that special person who welcomes her into your home, Jezebel will reward you with love and loyalty for life.

Since she is currently in a foster home, the shelter will have to schedule Jezebel for a "meet and greet" with potential adopters.  She has already been spayed, so she can go home the same day she is adopted.

Sacramento police dogs raising money through calendar

SACRAMENTO, CA - Four-legged members of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department have a new job -- they're furry calendar models.

Dogs from the department's K9 unit are featured in a 2011 calendar designed to raise funds for the nonprofit Sacramento Sheriff K9 Association.

A 3-year-old German shepherd named Ronin is Mr. June. He's shown posing dramatically with his handler on the bank of the American River as a sheriff's helicopter hovers overhead.

The money raised will help pay training  costs for working dogs and medical costs for retired animals.

The calendars are $20 and can be ordered on the Sacramento County Sheriff's K9 Association Website through their online store.

Pet owners get financial break

Sacramento and Yolo County pet owners can now apply to have their pets spayed or neutered for just $20 per dog and $15 per cat as part of “Spay Day Sacramento” on March 6.  This is a savings of 90 percent or more on this routine, but important veterinary procedure.  Spaying or neutering dogs and cats leads to better health and improved behavior and reduces the number of animals entering area shelters.

Qualifying pet owners must be either Sacramento or Yolo County residents and have an annual household income of $35,000 or less.  There is a 2 animal (dog and/or cat) limit per household.  Proof of income will be required.
