Film Moblization Rally Urges Support for AB 1839 and Tax Incentives for Filmmakers

More than 250 California Filmmakers rallied at the State Capitol today to urge passage of AB1839, a law to support California jobs by providing tax incentives for film production companies who film in California.

Union representatives and non-union actors and crew members carried signs and showcased their skills by demonstrating green screen technology and the art of foley, specialized sound effects for film.

A variety of speakers told the crowd how filmmaking jobs supports local busineses and the overall California economy.

Introduced by Assemblymembers Raul Bocanegra (Dist 39-San Fernando) and Mike Gatto (Dist 43-Burbank), the bill has approval from the CA Assembly and now needs passage in the CA Senate.

Actors Carl Weathers and Ron Perlman (TV-Sons of Anarchy, Hellboy)  joined union leaders from the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in calling for California leaders to make it easier for filmmakers to return to California by offering competitive economic incentives like those offered in other state or in foreign countries.
