This year there were 1,200 entries entered into the California State Fair Fine Art

Competition. Of those, only 180 artists were selected to showcase their art.

Vincent DiLeos’ photomontage, titled “Ghost Ship”, has been selected for this

award. This photomontage was created from four photographs by blending the

images together to look like one. The photograph looks like a pirate ship drifting

in the open sea with a glowing sunset behind it, and the mist and fog creeping up

to engulf the ship.

Vincent says, “ This photograph was inspired by the many hours spent watching

pirate movies as a child. My favorite of these was a movie called ”Sinbad the

Sailor”. Those wonderful memories from my past are far more important to me

than the technical aspects of how I created it. I was really surprised to be notified

that I will receive this award, since this was the first time I have entered a

State Fair competition. There are so many great artists in this competition, I feel

very lucky that my photograph was selected for such a prestigious award.”

The photomontage “Ghost Ship” was entered in the “Digital Art” category and

judged by Andrew Nicoletti, Associate Program Director of the Game Art Program

at Ex’pression College in Emeryville, California. The awards ceremony takes

place on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at noon at the California State Fair. “Ghost

Ship” can be seen at California State Fair starting on July 10-26 and it is also

available for sale at the High Hand Art Gallery located in Loomis, California.
