MLK Student Essay Contest

In conjunction with the 17th anniversary of the Sacramento Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration event, the MLK Committee is sponsoring a student essay contest with the winners to be announced prior to the celebration dinner on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Sacramento.

Students in elementary, middle and high school are eligible to participate and are being asked to write “How has the Civil Rights Act of 1964 impacted the world you live in today?"  The essay must not exceed 300 words.  Only one entry is allowed per student to be submitted by the deadline of Friday, December 19.  Details and instructions are available at MLK Celebration website.

And the entire community is invited to attend the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Dinner in January.  The dinner brings together more than 500 civic and community leaders, elected officials, judicial and legal community members, college and high school students, non-profit supporters, business people and educators to celebrate the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  In addition to honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the MLK event celebrates the thriving diversity of the Sacramento Region
