June 2 Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club Event to help Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center

Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center (SAEHC) is excited to announce a partnership with Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club to raise funds to build a recreation area and athletic court at SAEHC’s family shelter site.  100% of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to SAEHC to build the sports court.   

Brodt hopes to raise enough money at the June 2 Laughs Unlimited event to cover the expense of having a concrete slab poured and to purchase sports equipment including basketball hoops and balls.  Jeff Barker, owner of Rhino Sports of Northern California, generously donated the flooring for the athletic court valued at $3,500.

American Public Works Association Honors Sacramento’s Lucinda Willcox as Manager of the Year

The American Public Works Association (APWA) Sacramento Chapter recognized Lucinda Willcox as one of three outstanding individuals who represented the best management professionals in public works for 2011 at an annual awards dinner on Thursday, May 19. 

Willcox provides expertise in infrastructure and transportation planning, public administration and management and program development.  During her 20 years of experience, Willcox has revamped the Private Development Fund and has secured tens of millions of dollars in state and federal transportation money. 

“Lucinda inspires excellence and dedication in the public sector,” said APWA Sacramento Chapter President Matt Brogan. “She was selected based on profession, leadership, innovation, agency service, customer service and community service.”  

The APWA also honored Ken Grehm of Placer County and Cedar Kehoe of Elk Grove as Manager of the Year award winners.

The Evening of Dreams Prom is a red carpet gala in Sacramento serving teens and young adults with disabilities and special needs, complete with formal wear, photographers and dancing.   Guest with autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, and other mental and physical challenges dance the evening away with area high school athletes and student leaders.

“Evening of Dreams is an exclusive one of a kind event where students with special needs are served as the kings and queens of prom where they experience their dreams,” said Michelle Purcell, prom founder. Each guest is asked at registration to list their dreams for the evening, and according to event organizers, most are able to be reached.

The second Sacramento Kidical Mass event will be Sunday, May 15 at East Portal Park!

They will block off 51st St. between M and L streets for the event.

9 a.m.: Bike Decorating

10 a.m.: Family Bike Ride
             Wee Ones Ride - 1/2-mile route
             Bigger Kids Route - 2-1/12 mile route for people who can ride 25 minutes or longer

11 a.m.: Slow Race (who can ride the slowest without falling over?)

First Fridays Return For The Third Year To Fountains At Roseville

The popular First Friday street fairs have been scheduled for May-September Fridays (May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5 and September 2).

May’s First Friday features a full complement of street crafters and artisans, Kids Zone featuring Radio Disney Rockin Road Show and other special attractions geared to children of all ages,  Motor Sport Image Group Corvette car show plus live music by Roni and The Flight Band in The Counter Beer and Wine Garden. First Fridays are scheduled from 6-10pm. Fountains at Roseville is located at the corner of Roseville Parkway and Galleria Boulevard. Salon Entro hosts 1For1 Movement Charity Benefit for UC Davis Children's Hospital

Salon Entro inside Entro Studios, a locally based health and beauty salon, in association with the UC Davis Children’s Hospital, will utilize one of their many specialty services, hair extensions, to help inspire, motivate and uplift the self-esteem of children that suffer from chronic illnesses that cause hair-loss.

For the purposes of supporting foundations Salon Entro inside Entro Studios will host its first annual, Our 1FOR1 Movement, launch party on May 19 at Antiquite in Downtown Sacramento from 6:00 p.m to 8:30 p.m.

Contributors to the, Our 1FOR1 Movement, give hope and inspiration to children who suffer from chronic illnesses that cause hair-loss, a major contributor to the self-esteem and personal development of children.
