Dispose of Fireworks Safely – Collection Services Will Occur on July 4

The City of Sacramento Recycling and Solid Waste Division urges customers to dispose of spent fireworks safely.  All used fireworks should be fully extinguished, doused with water and bagged.  Spent fireworks should be placed in garbage containers, they are not recyclable.

Collection Service on Holidays

Garbage, yard waste and A-week recycle collection will occur on July 4 for customers who have Thursday as their collection day.  Containers should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2013.

If you were outside today, you may have noticed a giant ring around the sun. That ring is actually the reflection of ice crystals from high cirrus clouds, according to EarthSky.org

The ring was seen all over the area by News10 viewers, including Roseville and Stockton. Did you get a chance to see it?

Camellia Park Commnity Garden at 6650 Cougar Drive in South Sacramento is the place to be for the two early morning seminars at 8 and 9 a.m. to learn about composting organic trash into nutrient-rich soil perfect for enriching gardens.

The award-winning Sacramento Historic Rose Garden will host its annual Open Garden with sales of rare old roses and rose merchandise, tours, and a Silent Auction. Thousands of old-fashioned, fragrant roses will be in bloom amidst beautiful Victorian monuments and statues in the Historic City Cemetery. Native plant and perennial gardens will also be on display, and a history tour is scheduled.

Sacramento -- Saturday, March 9th kicks off the first 2013 Backyard Composting Seminars at Southside Community Garden, 5th & W Streets in downtown Sacramento.  Session 1 is from 8-9 a.m. and Session 2 from 9-10 a.m. 

April 13th is the next session at Camellia Park Community Center, 6650 Cougar Drive in the South Sacramento area.  Session times are the same each week.  Please view flyer for future dates and locations.

San Joaquin County FREE SMOG REPAIRS PROGRAM around the corner

Tune In Tune Up, is a car clean up event and car care clinic with FREE vehicle emissions related repairs and Free Emissions Screenings. Valley Clean Air Now (Valley CAN), San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and Tune In Tune Up´s (TI TU) main objective is to maximize emissions reductions.

Opportunity-This event, provides San Joaquin Valley drivers who have owned their car for at least six months, a free vehicle emissions test. If the vehicle does not pass the test but can be repaired, the driver will receive a voucher for up to $500 in emission related repairs at a participating STAR smog check station.

Visit the Historic Rose Garden in the Sacramento Historic City Cemetery on Saturday, March 30 at 10:00 am. This tour will focus on early rare roses which climb trees, line fences and surround monuments in the cemetery's award-winning rose garden. Rain cancels.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance. Assemble in the cemetery in the front parking lot.
