Railroad Museum to Showcase a Family-Favorite “Small Train Holiday” on November 27 & 28

California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum have exciting plans to dazzle, delight and engage post-Thanksgiving visitors with a special “Small Train Holiday” on Friday, November 27, and Saturday, November 28, 2015.

For this special two-day holiday extravaganza, the Museum brings together a magical assortment of trains, hundreds of feet of track and an array of buildings and accessories. For just two days a year, local organizations and devoted individuals set up shop in the Museum, filling the Roundhouse with delightful model and toy train layouts of every description. Visitors of all ages will marvel at the variety of locomotives that pull pretend passengers and scaled-down shipments through all kinds of scenery, whether modeled on real places or created in the imaginations of the collectors. Additionally, guests can enjoy participating in a discovery-filled scavenger hunt throughout the Museum.

Downtown Holiday Ice Rink Returns for 24th Season!

The official start of the winter season in Sacramento will kick off with the opening of the Downtown Sacramento Holiday Ice Rink, Sacramento’s oldest and most beloved outdoor ice rink, on November 6 with a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 12 pm and free skating for all.

Organized by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP) and situated in the heart of downtown at the corner of 7th and K streets, the ice rink has been a seasonal landmark on the Kay since 1991 and offers a playful escape into an urban winter wonderland for kids and adults alike.

“There’s something magical about being downtown for the holidays,” said Michael Ault, Executive Director of the Downtown Sacramento Partership. “The downtown ice rink is a place where families, couples, and friends have been coming to for more than 20 years to enjoy the holiday season and create treasured holiday memories.”
