Spring Beauties Awaken

Spring Beauties Awaken

Join Historic Rose Garden curator Anita Clevenger and Hamilton Square's Perennial Garden's manager Leslie Hurlburt to see and smell spring flowers that have emerged from a brief winter slumber and are blooming brightly throughout the gardens. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour either or both gardens, spending time with volunteers who created and care for them. The Sacramento Historic Rose Garden recently won the World Federation of Rose Societies' Garden of Excellence award, recognized for the volunteers' work to collect and preserve roses from the Mother Lode and beyond. Hamilton Square has been recognized for its creation of habitat for native bees. Both gardens are nestled among the cemetery's monuments, re-creating the garden cemetery that was established in 1849. In spring, the combination of blooms and tombs are at their best.

Cemetery Adventures for Children (3rd Grade and younger)

Cemetery Adventures for Children (3rd Grade and younger)

Bring your kids to this fun Cemetery Tour on Saturday, September, 20 at 10:00 a.m.

Do you have a child who is interested in the cemetery but would rather see bugs than burial records? Perhaps they'd like to take a peek into a mausoleum, learn about the animals that make their home here or hear a short tale about the exciting days of old. If so, this tour is for them. Specifically designed for children third grade and younger, this tour is more of an informal stroll to introduce kids to the many wonders the cemetery has to offer.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance. Tours are free; however, donations are appreciated and benefit cemetery preservation. For more information, call 916-448-0811 or 916-264-7839.
