Old City Cemetery Event - "Meet President Lincoln" - Tuesday, November 19th @ 10:00 am

Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg address, Wayne Scott, noted Lincoln reenactor, will be reciting the Gettysburg Address at the Old City Cemetery.  This free event is sponsored by the Gen. George Wright Camp 22 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance. Old City Cemetery Tour - "What's Blooming?"

The Old City Cemetery Committee, Inc. will be offering a tour focusing on perennials blooming throughout the Historic City Cemetery.

When:    Saturday, October 19, 2013 @ 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Where:    Sacramento Historic City Cemetery, 1000 Broadway, Sacramento 

What could be more beautiful than red-orange trees, bright yellow leaves and flowering plants?

Come find out when docent Sharon Patrician takes you on a tour of “What’s Blooming” in the Historic City Cemetery.

Tours are free, however, donations are appreciated and go towards the restoration and preservation of the roses and cemetery artifacts.

Even before California was a state, its officials were busy fleecing the electorate. Pork barrel legislators, fraudulent election workers, dueling senators and land-grabbing governors are just a few of the nice folks you’ll meet.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance. Rose Propagation Workshop at The Old City Cemetery

Rose Propagation Workshop at The Old City Cemetery

Historic Rose Garden volunteers and propagators will conduct a hands-on rose propagation workshop on Saturday, September 14, 2012, at 10AM to noon.  Learn how to select the best plant material, how to prepare the cuttings and how to root them using the "terrarium" approach.  They will discuss how to grow the rooted cuttings into plants that are ready to be planted in the garden.  Workshop participants will have the opportunity to take home a few cuttings of their own. 

Workshops are free, however, donations are appreciated and go towards the restoration and preservation of the roses and cemetery artifacts.

NINTH Annual Tomato Tasting put on by the Elk Grove Community Garden

NINTH Annual Tomato Tasting put on by the Elk Grove Community Garden

The NINTH Annual Tomato Tasting, put on by the Elk Grove Community Garden is Saturday, September 7th , from 9 a.m. to noon. This FREE event is open to the public. 

The tasting tables will be set up at the front of the garden, for you to try over 30 different types of tomatoes’ grown in the EGCGarden. This year will also feature Fence Art by Carolyn Groth, a local Elk Grove artist. There will also be a Children’s Craft Table hosted by the Elk Grove Gardeners of the Grove.  Some tomatoes, herbs, plants and yard art will be available for purchase. There will also be Community Garden tours and a Master Gardener will be available to answer your gardening questions.  Come out and visit this great event to taste test some different tomato varieties, tour the garden, to see the success of the Elk Grove Community Garden and how it gives back to the community. 

Deadheading at Dusk at the Old City Cemetery - Monday, Sept 9th @ 6:00 pm till dusk

Come join us on Monday, September 9th at 6:00 pm till dusk in the beautiful Old City Cemetery’s Historic Rose Garden for an early evening hands-on event.  We will be removing spent blooms from the many rosebushes and tidying up the garden which encourages repeat blooming of the roses in our treasured Historic Rose Garden.

Tools and training will be provided and light refreshments will be served.
