An East Sacramento Thanksgiving Tradition

An East Sacramento Thanksgiving Tradition

It happens every year and it's going to happen again this year. Tens of thousands of people will descend on East Sacramento on Thanksgiving morning. Yep, it's Run to Feed the Hungry time again.

While this event annoys me on some levels, overall I kind of like it. It's bizarre to see so many people walking down the street. Most of them are in a good mood, clutching their red Starbucks cups, wearing funny hats, and pushing strollers adorned with balloons and ribbons. They almost always move in groups.  Chatting about the mundane, but enjoying the colorful view while they do it.

There are a few actual runners. They are near the front and in the minority. Aside from something to do before having to interact with various members of their extended family, I think most people just do it for the t-shirt. No?

One Body, Two Worlds by Natachi Mez

One Body, Two Worlds by Natachi Mez

I’ve never really walked through the mind of someone other than myself. I’ve attempted it, but then again, how could I be accurate? I don’t know what makes me different from every other girl in the world, but I know the factors that multiply to equal me.

I remember, when I was a lot younger, I wanted a more common name. How many people do you know with the name “Natachi?” I wanted the straight, flowing hair. I wanted the hourglass. As I continue to evolve into a young lady, I embrace my culture. I love my name, which means “from god.” I embrace my hair, and I appreciate everything I have because without them, who would I be?

It’s funny sometimes, looking back. Thinking of all of the ridiculous things that ran through my mind and straight out of my mouth.

Online dating: 3 steps to a good profile

Online dating: 3 steps to a good profile

So, you think you're ready to journey into the wilds of online dating? You've passed my initial checklist. Now what? I'm so glad you asked...again.

While my advice is derived from a few years of heartache and pain, it should always be ingested with a grain of salt.

1) Photo: Post a freaking photo! Pardon the 80s reference, but you don't have to look like Fabio or Cindy Crawford to get a date. Have you watched an episode of My Strange Addiction or Hoarders? How many of those freaks are single? Very few...which always makes me feel so happy about my singledom, but that's neither here nor there.

My point is take a photo. Don't wear sunglasses. Don't wear a hat. Don't make a duck face. Don't grip your chin thoughtfully. Smile. Take it outside...the light is more flattering, but don't take it in your car.
