 Vincent DiLeo will receive “The Award Of Excellence” from the State Fair Fine Art Competition

This year there were 1,200 entries entered into the California State Fair Fine Art

Competition. Of those, only 180 artists were selected to showcase their art.

Vincent DiLeos’ photomontage, titled “Ghost Ship”, has been selected for this

award. This photomontage was created from four photographs by blending the

Front Street Shelter's Pet Food Pantry Empty!

Front Street Shelter's Pet Food Pantry Empty!

The Front Street Animal Shelter provides 3,000 - 5,000 pounds of pet food to pet owners in need every week. Since establishing the program three years ago this is the first time the pantry has been empty. The program is 100% donation based and provides pet food to thousands of Sacramento residents. The resources are available to all Sacramento residents with the goal of helping keeping animals in their original homes and out of the shelter.

If you are interested in donating to the pet pantry program the Front Street Shelter is located at 2127 Front Street Sacramento, CA 95818. Hours of operation: Wednesday - Sunday from 9am - 5pm.

Nursing professor awarded prestigious fellows honor

Christine Vourakis, a Sacramento State professor of nursing and a nationally recognized expert on mental health and addictions, has been named to the 2014 Class of Fellows by the American Academy of Nursing (AAN). She will be inducted during the organization’s October conference in Washington, D.C.

JMG Tennis Academy Director Joseph Gilbert Honored With “Coach of the Year" Award

Joseph Morris Gilbert, Director of the JMG Tennis Academy at Arden Hills in Sacramento, was recently recognized during the Team USA Coaching Awards reception with a prestigious “2013 USOC Developmental Coach of the Year” award.  Each year, the U.S. Olympic Committee honors the best in sport coaching as part of an annual recognition program and the “Developmental Coach of the Year” award is presented to a dedicated coach at the youth club, high school or junior level, or a coach who is directly responsible for training athletes to reach the junior and/or elite level.
