10 Books to Read Launch Party

News10, The Sacramento Public Library, and ScholarShare have joined forces to bring you "10 Books to Read," a new local program encouraging parents, grandparents and caregivers to read with their children.

Every month, Sacramento Public Library librarians will select books based on their accessibility, appeal, and readability.  These selections will be listed on the "10 Books to Read" page at saclibrary.org, making it easy to find new books that spark the imagination and generate a love of reading.  From classic family favorites to award winning titles, the lists have something to captivate any child's imagination.

Summer reading underway, chance to win prizes

SACRAMENTO -- The Sacramento Public Library's Summer Reading 2012 Program is underway through August called "Dream Big Read!"

It's for kids of all ages.  Preschool and adults can get in on the fun as well.

How it works is that you get a Tic Tac Toe Board each month and cross off boxes that include "read a book of your choice" or "attend a library program."

Once you check off three boxes you earn a free book. When you do the whole board, you can enter for a grand prize including an iPad or $100 Target gift card.

News10's Melissa Crowley signed her entire family up and her 3-year-old got her first card!

"Very exciting and all free. There are also special events and activities like magic shows and Chinese classes at the 28 branches," Crowley said.
