Master Glass Blower Tim Lazer will again be exhibiting one of his wondrous creations, a Splash Amazon Bowl, for the Crocker Art Auction 2011, scheduled for June 4th, from 5:00pm to 9:30pm.  This casually elegant evening features works by more than 100 artists.  The event will kick off with a silent auction, followed by an alfresco dinner and live auction in their new courtyard.  Join the fun and begin, or add to, your art collection.  Proceeds support the exhibitions and education programs of the Crocker.  To purchase tickets, call 916-808-7843.  Visit the museum gift shop for more exquisite works by Tim and Lynda Lazer of Lazer Glass.

Celebrate the Festival of the Arts at Sac State

Sacramento State’s annual Festival of the Arts puts the “spring” in springtime during its April 13-16 celebration of fine art and design, music, literature, theater and dance.

Scheduled events include The Wiz, Sac State’s Jazz Ensembles with guest saxophonist Donny McCaslin, the Pacific Guitar Ensemble, “The Real-Fake” 3D art exhibit, photo exhibits by Corinne Botz and Sam Parsons, a presentation by author Peter Grandbois and Japanese Tea Ceremonies.

Native American artist presents work to kick off special exhibit

Sacramento State’s Art Department is joining artistic hands with La Raza Galeria Posada to host Native American artist HOCK E AYE VI – Edgar Heap of Birds – for a special exhibit and presentation.

WHAT: Edgar Heap of Birds will lecture on “Being a Global Citizen and Sharing Native History and Art Across the World”

WHEN: Friday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Mariposa Hall Room 1000 at Sacramento State

A reception will follow from 7 p.m.  to 9 p.m. in Kadema Hall’s Witt Gallery.

The event is free, but space is limited. The presentation is sponsored by the Asian Art History Club.

The lecture coincides with a full exhibition of the artist’s prints, along with sculptures by Craig Martinez, at La Raza Galeria Posada, Feb. 12 – April 2. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and until 9 p.m. on Second Saturdays.

Funnyman Lavell Crawford is coming to Punchline Sacramento on January 26 to January 30.  Crawford is quickly climbing the comedic ranks and becoming one rising comedy star to watch. From his numerous television appearances and on stage performances, audiences are becoming increasingly familiar with Lavell's giant-sized talent. Lavell has appeared at HBO's US Comedy Arts Festival, The Comedy Festival and LAFFAPALOOZA, America's longest-running annual urban comedy festival.

Fairytale Town  is proud to present SHAKESPERIMENT 2011, a new extension of their popular and successful Fairytale Town Troupers program. The first production will be a brand new one act adaptation of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream: Fairies & Fools!",  featuring young actors ages 12 to 21. 

This innovative and original production focuses on the disharmony between the King and Queen of Fairyland and a group of bumbling actors who unwittingly cross their paths. It's a fun and family friendly romp filled with music, magic, mirth and mayhem.
