Cemetery Adventures for Children (3rd Grade and younger)

Cemetery Adventures for Children (3rd Grade and younger)

Bring your kids to this fun Cemetery Tour on Saturday, September, 20 at 10:00 a.m.

Do you have a child who is interested in the cemetery but would rather see bugs than burial records? Perhaps they'd like to take a peek into a mausoleum, learn about the animals that make their home here or hear a short tale about the exciting days of old. If so, this tour is for them. Specifically designed for children third grade and younger, this tour is more of an informal stroll to introduce kids to the many wonders the cemetery has to offer.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Free parking is available in the lot at 10th & Broadway, across the street from the 10th Street entrance. Tours are free; however, donations are appreciated and benefit cemetery preservation. For more information, call 916-448-0811 or 916-264-7839.

Historic Rose Garden volunteers and propagators will conduct a hands-on rose propagation workshop on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at 10AM to noon.  Learn how to select the best plant material, how to prepare the cuttings and how to root them using the "terrarium" approach.  They will discuss how to grow the rooted cuttings into plants that are ready to be planted in the garden.  Workshop participants will have the opportunity to take home a few cuttings of their own.

Workshops are free, however, donations are appreciated and go towards the restoration and preservation of the roses and cemetery artifacts.

Old City Cemetery Tour - "Bad Poetry & Purple Prose"

Old City Cemetery Tour - "Bad Poetry & Purple Prose"

Other than drinking and brawling, the pioneers enjoyed nothing better than sappy love poetry.  They both loved and dreadfully abused the English language, and we’ll visit these perpetrators of sentimental doggerel and overblown purple prose to read from their best forgotten “classics.”  Join us on Saturday morning, August 16th at 10:00 am.
